Watchdog calls on social networks to keep minors out of protests

MOSCOW, Jan 21 (PRIME) -- The Russian communications service has called on all social networks, including VKontakte and TikTok, not to admit expansion of the information involving minors in participation in illegal protesting mass events, the authority said late on Wednesday in a statement.

“The communications service calls on all social networks, information resources, and media with a request not to admit distribution of illegal information engaging minors in illegal actions, with calls to participation in illegal rallies, committing any actions with dangerous consequences for children,” the authority said.

The service noticed that VKontakte was used to engage minors in unsanctioned rallies, and send the request to the management take immediate measures to prevent such activities.

“Based on the requirement of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation, a warning on non-admission of distribution of information involving minors in illegal actions dangerous for their life and health was sent,” the authority said.

Also on demand from the prosecutor, the watchdog warned TikTok about the need to delete information involving minors in illegal actions. The social network is used to expand materials with calls to the minors to take part in illegal mass protests.
